Armando González had a night to remember on Saturday, netting his first professional hat-trick and leading Chivas Guadalajara to a commanding victory over Atlas in the latest edition of the Clásico Tapatío. The young Mexican striker, affectionately known as “La Hormiga” (The Ant), didn’t just steal the spotlight with his performance - he also surged to the top of the Liga MX scoring charts.
How many Apertura 2025 goals has González scored?
With his three goals, González reached 10 on the season, tying Toluca’s Portuguese forward Paulinho, the reigning Liga MX scoring champion. This milestone is especially significant: no Mexican-born player has seriously contended for the scoring title since Henry Martín won it with Club América back in 2023.
Wearing the No. 34 jersey for El Rebaño Sagrado, González had already shown flashes of his attacking instinct earlier in the campaign, scoring twice in a thrilling 4-3 win over Atlético San Luis. But his performance against Los Zorros cemented his status as one of the breakout stars of the tournament and a key figure in Chivas’ offensive setup.
Crucial clashes coming up for Chivas
Guadalajara now heads into the final stretch of the regular season with two crucial matchups: a road game against Pachuca on November 2, followed by a home clash with Monterrey at Estadio Akron on November 8. With momentum on their side and González in red-hot form, Chivas will be looking to lock in a direct spot in the playoffs - and keep “La Hormiga” atop the scoring leaderboard.
