The canceled Miami match that wiped millions from Barça’s budget
Laporta admitted during the Assembly that the revenue from the Miami game would have offset what the club missed out on from the matches against Valencia and Getafe at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.

At this stage, Barça can’t afford to pass up income, so the cancellation of the Miami plan is a financial setback. Joan Laporta himself announced it during Sunday’s Assembly of delegates. At that point, the club fully expected the Villarreal–Barça game to be played at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, and he revealed that the match would have generated exclusive revenue for the Catalan club.
He didn’t specify how much that would be. “We don’t yet know how much we’ll earn from the Miami match. We don’t have all the information from LaLiga. But there will be income, for sure, and it will make up for what we’re missing at the Johan. I can assure you that the revenue from the Miami game will be much higher than if we played in Villarreal, where we wouldn’t make anything. The American market is very important for us. All the clubs will benefit from this game, but especially those of us going there.”
How much did Barcelona lose out on from cancelled Miami game?
Club sources estimated the match would have brought in between five and six million euros. Now that figure has vanished — a small but real blow to Barça’s finances, which were caught off guard by the announcement from Relevent and LaLiga that the game had been canceled.
Unlike Villarreal, however, and likely because Barça wasn’t responsible for mobilizing fans or handling logistics for the trip to the United States, the club didn’t put up much of a fight. It accepted the decision, though it did regret that “an opportunity that could have benefited everyone” was lost.
