Chivas Guadalajara wrapped up the Apertura 2025 regular season with a thrilling 4–2 win over Monterrey at Akron Stadium.

The victory came with plenty of drama as Chivas built a commanding lead in the first half before Monterrey mounted a late rally that forced Gabriel Milito’s team to dig deep in the final minutes.

Chivas dominated the opening 45 minutes with sharp attacking play, creating chances with ease and converting them efficiently to take a 3–0 lead before halftime. But Monterrey refused to fold, scoring twice in the second half to cut the deficit to one and put pressure back on the home side.

With the score at 3-2 and with Rayados pushing for an equalizer, Javier “Chicharito” Hernández entered the match in the 81st minute, looking to make an impact. The veteran striker — a club legend and fan favorite — didn’t waste his opportunity.

In stoppage time, Chivas broke down the left flank and worked the ball across the field to Miguel Gómez, who sent a perfect cross to the far post. Hernández timed his run, rose above the defense, and powered home a header past goalkeeper Santiago Melé in the 94th minute.

The goal was Chicharito’s first official strike since February, when he scored against Atlético de San Luis on Matchday 9 of the Clausura 2025. His late finish not only secured three points but also gave the fans an emotional lift, celebrating the return of the club’s all-time top scorer to the scoresheet.

With the result, Chivas close the regular season on a high note, heading into the Liguilla with renewed confidence and their star striker back in rhythm. Chicharito has seen his minutes limited this season and may may coming to the end of his time with the club. Saturday’s goal could well prove to be his final goal in the colors of Chivas Guadalajara.
