Ciudad de México Update:

Sergio Ramos, one of the biggest signings in Liga MX this year, is approaching the end of his contract with Monterrey but has made it clear he wants to stay in Mexico.

The Spanish veteran joined Rayados in February 2025 on a deal running through December. While the club has not yet announced a contract renewal for the 39-year-old defender, Ramos told Spanish TV show El Chiringuito that he’s eager to continue with Monterrey.

“Everything has been great, I really can’t complain. I’m very happy, in a country that has treated me wonderfully, with a club that has an exciting project. Hopefully we can keep things going in December because we feel very comfortable here,” Ramos said.

A global spotlight in Liga MX

From the moment he arrived, Ramos drew international attention to Mexican football. Liga MX has also added other high-profile names in recent times, including James Rodríguez and Keylor Navas.

Ramos quickly became Monterrey’s captain and has featured regularly on the scoresheet despite being a defender, netting seven goals so far this season.

A star-studded Monterrey roster

Ramos is not the only player with international pedigree on the squad. Monterrey also features Spanish midfielders Sergio Canales and Óliver Torres, Argentine forward Lucas Ocampos, and recently signed French striker Anthony Martial.
