Monterrey, Nuevo León Update:

Sergio Ramos arrived in Mexico at the start of 2025 to pull on the shirt of Rayados de Monterrey. His contract was set for one year and is due to expire at the end of December, which has raised the question of whether he will stay with the club or not.

According to information from journalist Juanfe Sanz of El Chiringuito, Ramos has supposedly decided not to continue with Rayados, although this would not mean the end of his career as a footballer, but rather continuing it from a different role.

It is worth noting that there has not yet been any official announcement, and as recently as October Ramos himself, in an interview with Sanz, expressed his fondness for Mexico and his desire to remain with the team in blue and white, who are currently in the Quarter Finals of the Apertura 2025 tournament in Liga MX.

“I am very happy, it is a country that has treated me wonderfully, a club with a very interesting project, and we hope that this year goes well for us. Now in December the contract ends, hopefully we stay here, as we are very comfortable,” he said.

In addition, José Antonio Noriega, Rayados’ sporting president, commented only a few days ago that there had been talks to renew the deal with Ramos, although he did not go into detail, as he did not want to take attention away from the competition ahead for the squad as they chase the title.

I understand the concern, but at the moment we want to centre ourselves and focus on the pitch. I can tell you straight away that yes, of course, there have been talks, which is normal, but I would prefer not to go into detail because it distracts us from what is most important now: thinking about how the team will perform,” he said.

Ramos is the captain of Monterrey and one of the team’s leaders, within a squad that includes players such as Sergio Canales, Anthony Martial, Lucas Ocampos and Óliver Torres. He has stood out in defence, but also with his goal scoring contribution, which has been a hallmark throughout his career.
