Update:

This Friday, Pachuca officially announced the arrival of Esteban Solari as the Liga MX club’s new head coach to close out the Apertura 2025, a move that comes after Jaime Lozano’s departure.

The Argentine will take charge immediately and face his first major challenge when Pachuca squares off against Pumas in the play-in - a matchup that will mark the beginning of his tenure as a strategist in Mexican soccer.

Pachuca broke the news on social media with a statement accompanied by an animated video, featuring Solari portrayed as an astronaut landing in “La Bella Airosa” aboard the spaceship “Solaris-1”.

Solari’s Liga MX past

Although this will be his first stint as a coach in Mexico, Solari is no stranger to Liga MX. Back in 2007, he made a strong impression as a player with Pumas, scoring 25 goals and adding two assists in 40 appearances.

He was part of the squad that reached the Apertura 2007 final, where Pumas finished as runners-up after falling to Atlante. Solari started both legs of that series, though he didn’t find the back of the net.

As part of Friday’s announcement, Solari delivered his first message as Pachuca’s new boss, calling on fans to pack Estadio Hidalgo on November 20 and support the team in the play-in clash against Pumas.
