After firing Jaime Lozano, Pachuca is hoping to appoint Argentine Esteban Solari ahead of the Apertura 2025 play-in.

The atmosphere around Pachuca has been electric in recent hours. Following the official announcement of Jaime Lozano’s dismissal and swirling rumors pointing to Esteban Solari as his likely successor, the updates from the Hidalgo-based club have been coming thick and fast.

Reports of “El Tano” Solari’s potential arrival in La Bella Airosa have circulated widely across Mexican media. However, sources close to Diario AS indicate that the contractual negotiations are still in flux. Solari is currently en route to Mexico to iron out the details of a deal that, at first glance, didn’t fully convince the Argentine.

According to information obtained by AS, the preliminary agreement would cover only the play-in phase of the Apertura 2025 tournament. If Solari manages to win both matches - first against Pumas and then against the loser of the Tijuana vs Juárez clash - thus securing a spot in the playoffs, he would remain in charge for the next tournament.

Solari seeking long-term stability

Naturally, Solari’s camp is pushing for greater long-term security. The next round of talks will aim to establish a more extended contract from the outset. As with any negotiation, the classic tug-of-war will be crucial to reaching a mutually satisfying outcome.

Interestingly, just a month ago - in an exclusive with AS México - Solari reflected on his past with Los Auriazules, saying: “Pumas is a source of pride in my career, and I know it will return to my life someday.”
