Miguel Borja in “advanced negotiations” with a major Mexican club
According to an executive close to the player, the River Plate striker is already in talks to move to Mexico with three clubs declaring an interest.
Colombian striker Miguel Ángel Borja, currently under contract with Argentina’s River Plate until December 2025, is reportedly close to wrapping up his time in Núñez and exploring a new challenge in Mexico’s Liga MX.
According to multiple reports, Tigres UANL, Cruz Azul and Club América have initiated formal inquiries about signing the prolific forward.
Óscar Arturo Martán, president of Inter Palmira and close associate of Borja’s representatives, confirmed that negotiations with a major Mexican club are well underway. “Miguel has a number in mind. Talks are advanced with one of Mexico’s big teams. If América meets those numbers, I believe he’d accept,” Martán said in an interview with Colombian outlet Zona Libre de Humo.
He added, “They’re still in the exploratory phase, but the Mexico deal is progressing. Miguel wants a few more years of high-level competition. He has clear expectations. If América gets close to those figures, I think they’ll land him.”
Contractual situation and immediate future
Borja, 32, is under contract with River until the end of 2025, although various reports suggest that River Plate have no plans to renew his contract, which would open the door for him to leave as a free agent once the contract expires.
Since joining River Plate in 2022, Borja has played 159 matches, scored 62 goals, and provided 10 assists. His potential departure would mark the end of his time at the club and the beginning of a new challenge in Mexican football.
With top-tier Mexican teams vying for his signature, Borja’s next move could be one of the most talked-about transfers of the upcoming window.
