Ciudad de México Update:

Mexico’s national soccer team is hitting a rough patch as the countdown to the 2026 World Cup continues. Under manager Javier Aguirre, El Tri has now gone six straight matches without a victory—just one game shy of matching its longest winless streak ever, set at seven under Miguel “Piojo” Herrera in 2013–2015.

Mexico’s last win was back in July

The team’s last win came against the United States in the Gold Cup Final back in July. Since then, Mexico has stumbled through a string of draws and defeats: A friendly against Japan which ended without goals, a 2-2 draw with South Korea, a crushing 4-0 loss to Colombia, draws against Ecuador and Uruguay and to cap it all, a 1-2 defeat to Paraguay in San Antonio, Texas last night — a result that drew loud boos from the crowd.

Mexico's recent results

  1. 6 Jul Mexico 0-0 Japan
  2. 9 Sept Mexico 2-2 South Korea
  3. 11 Oct Mexico 0-4 Colombia
  4. 14 Oct Mexico 1-1 Ecuador
  5. 15 Nov Mexico 0-0 Uruguay
  6. 18 Nov Mexico 1-2 Paraguay

Mexico's run under Miguel Herrera: 2 June 2015 - 30 June 2015

  1. Peru 1-1 Mexico (friendly)
  2. Brazil 2-0 Mexico (friendly)
  3. Mexico 0-0 Bolivia (Copa América)
  4. Chile 3-3 Mexico (Copa América)
  5. Mexico 1-2 Ecuador (Copa América)
  6. Mexico 2-2 Costa Rica (friendly)
  7. Honduras 0-0 Mexico (friendly)

Comparing to Herrera’s era

When Miguel Herrera was in charge, Mexico endured a seven-game winless run that stretched from a 1-1 draw with Peru to a 0-0 tie with Honduras. Unlike Aguirre’s current skid, Herrera’s team never suffered a lopsided defeat. However, Piojo’s Mexico were dumped out of the 2015 Copa América after failing to win a single match - two draws and a defeat left them bottom of their group.
