Meteoric Mora: This is the Tijuana teen’s tally of Liga MX records
As he stars for Tijuana in the Apertura 2025 postseason, the 17-year-old sensation continues his meteoric rise to the top of Mexican soccer.

All eyes are once again on Gilberto Mora, the attacking midfielder who may have just hammered the final nail in Tigres’ coffin.
The Mexican international sealed the 3-0 win that leaves Club Tijuana with one foot in the Apertura 2025 semifinals - a stage they haven’t reached since the Clausura 2018. And with that, the hype surrounding the breakout star of the moment has only grown.
Mora makes history
Some had him on their radar since that penalty he earned against FC Juárez, but now, in the playoffs, Mora is officially the youngest player ever to score in this stage. He surpasses these names:
- Rafael Márquez – Invierno 1996 | 17 years, 287 days
- César Villaluz – Clausura 2006 | 17 years, 289 days
- Omar Esparza – Clausura 2006 | 17 years, 358 days
Mora checks every box: not only is he the youngest scorer in the playoffs, he also holds that record in Liga MX overall.
On August 31, 2024, he found the back of the net against Club León, becoming the youngest goal scorer in league history at just 15 years old - a sign of what many expect will be a stellar career.

Is Mora the youngest ever Liga MX debutant?
No. Despite the accolades piling up at such a young age, the record for the youngest debut in Mexico’s top flight still belongs to Víctor Mañón, who stepped onto the pitch for Pachuca in Apertura 2007 at 15 years and 215 days.
