Latest injury setback could spell disaster for Neymar

Just when it seemed he was finally taking off, misfortune has struck Neymar once again.

Santos have confirmed that Neymar will miss the crucial match against Internacional of Porto Alegre due to injury. The striker aggravated a left knee issue during the game against Mirassol, where he went from hero to villain after scoring and then conceding a penalty for the equalizer.

According to reports from Brazil, his left knee is once again causing him problems, the same knee for which he had surgery more than two years ago. The club’s medical department, which has monitored his progress throughout the season, is opting not to take any risks.

The Brazilian will miss the upcoming game against a direct rival in the fight to avoid relegation. He is expected to return for the match against Sport. Neymar is yet to truly shine since his return to Santos and has already missed 24 matches due to injury. Muscle injuries have plagued the player this season, enough to leave Santos without their star.

It’s massive blow for both team and player. Santos have no margin for error, sitting 17th in the league, just above the relegation zone with 37 points. The final stretch of the season will determine Neymar’s fate, with his contract renewal depending on securing a place in the top flight.

Neymar is also running out of time to reintegrate himself in the Brazil national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup. He has not featured for Brazil since sustaining the knee injury on international duty in 2023 and Carlo Ancelotti has a wealth of attacking talents to call upon.
