Hirving “Chucky” Lozano was asked about joining Chivas or América: here’s what he said

Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, a key figure for Mexico’s national team, has discussed the possibility of returning to Mexican soccer - and potentially joining one of the country’s very biggest clubs. A product of Pachuca’s youth system, Lozano left for Europe in 2017, where he built a solid career before officially signing with MLS expansion side San Diego FC earlier this year.

During a recent interview with TUDN’s David Faitelson, Lozano was asked not only about a general return to Mexican soccer, but specifically about the idea of suiting up for either Club América or Chivas Guadalajara - two of the most storied and high-profile teams in the country.

“I’m not closing the door on anyone,” Lozano said. “They’re both great clubs - why not? Playing for Chivas would be a beautiful experience. América too, the biggest club in Mexico. I’d like to be there, but time will tell.”

Lozano, 30, acknowledged that a return to Liga MX isn’t likely in the near future. Despite rumors, no formal offers were made, and his journey in Southern California is just beginning. According to Transfermarkt, his contract with San Diego FC runs through December 2028.

While the allure of Mexico’s top clubs is undeniable, Lozano made it clear that if he were to return, his preference would be to rejoin the team that launched his professional career. “I would like to come back. If it’s possible, yes,” he said. “I’m very grateful to Pachuca - to Jesús [Martínez], to everyone there. They gave me everything: education, a home, food. They gave me the chance to play in the first division. I owe them a lot.”
