Update:

Monterrey’s campaign in the Apertura 2025 has been a tale of two halves. After a blistering start that saw them string together a remarkable winning streak, Rayados have stumbled in recent weeks, managing just one win in their last five matches.

From first to fourth

The team’s inconsistency has become a defining feature of the latter stages of the Liga MX season. Once sitting atop the standings, Monterrey now finds itself in fourth place with 27 points - four behind league leaders Toluca.

Rayados opened the tournament with a humbling 3-0 loss to Pachuca, but quickly rebounded with seven straight victories, one of the longest winning runs in club history. That early dominance, however, has faded. The squad has struggled to recapture its winning form as the regular season winds down.

Under head coach Domènec Torrent, Monterrey played to a dramatic 2-2 draw against Club América, conceding the equalizer in stoppage time. That was followed by a heavy 6-2 defeat at the hands of Toluca - a result that raised serious questions about the team’s defensive stability.

Rayados briefly regained momentum with a narrow 1-0 home win over Santos Laguna, but failed to build on it. They settled for a pair of draws in their next outings: 2-2 against Xolos and 1-1 versus Pumas, leaving fans wanting more.

A rocky run-in for Rayados

The final stretch of the season won’t be any easier. Monterrey faces a trio of opponents fighting for postseason positioning. On Tuesday, they’ll host ninth-place Juárez, who sit on 19 points. Then comes a tough road trip to Mexico City to take on Cruz Azul, currently second in the table with 28 points. The regular season wraps up with two marquee matchups: the Clásico Regio against Tigres and a visit to Estadio Akron to face Chivas.

Rayados will be looking to tighten up their play and finish strong, hoping to secure a direct berth in the quarterfinals or, at the very least, enter the postseason through the play-in round. With the talent on the roster and the stakes rising, Monterrey’s response in these final fixtures could define their entire season.
