La Máquina heads into this contest riding high after a dramatic win over Club América on Saturday. Cruz Azul dominated early, but a costly mistake by Jorge Sánchez gifted Brian Rodríguez the opening goal. Another defensive lapse - this time from Kevin Álvarez - allowed Gabriel “Toro” Fernández to equalize.
Ultimately, it was a moment of brilliance from Ignacio Rivero that sealed the victory and solidified Cruz Azul’s hold on second place.
Necaxa, meanwhile, arrive reeling from a demoralizing 5-3 defeat at the hands of Tigres. The Aguascalientes side struck first through Diber Cambindo, but Tigres’ Juan Brunetta was unstoppable, netting a first-half hat trick. Ángel Correa and Diego Lainez added to the rout, leaving Necaxa searching for answers.
