Bringing Cristiano Ronaldo to life via UR Cristiano
Day 2 of the Portugal Football Summit saw members of the strikers social media team discuss how the UR Cristiano YouTube channel came about.

A wave of anticipation was generated in August 2024 as Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo launched his own YouTube channel.
After less than a week after launch, the UR Cristiano channel had already attracted over 55 million new subscriptions and has gone on to generate over 75 million subscribers.
And despite failing to topple YouTube king in MrBeast aka James Stephen “Jimmy” Donaldson, a seasoned YouTuber and internet personality who still leads the way with more than 440 million subscribers globally, the Al Nassr striker can still boast of having the most followed Instagram account in the world with the Portuguese boasting 666 million followers, ahead of Argentine striker Lionel Messi and singer/actress Selena Gomez with Ronaldo also having 112 million followers on X.
On Day 2 at the Portugal Football Summit, being staged in Lisbon, two executives from Cristiano’s personal social media team (Tomas Froes and Tiago Craveiro) discussed the process in bringing the channel to life.
UR Cristiano comes alive
The pair had a series of meetings with the player and the idea of building his own media came to fruition whereby the Al Nassr star would own his own production studio, the IP address and ultimately the audience.
The Madeira born striker arrived for the first meeting with over 30 ideas of what he wanted the channel to be: offering a hub of football, interviews, family insight, nutrition and wellness advice along with gaming news with Cristiano anxious that the one-to-one element of the channel was at the forefront.
Following the launch, the anticipation was that the channel would reach one million followers after a day or two since launch but all expectations were shattered when, just after 35 minutes, over one million users had subscribed to UR Cristiano shattering YouTube records with a core audience in the 18-30 age bracket.
Without wanting to give too much away relating to future plans, the pair alluded to a collaboration with UK born actor Matthew Vaughn and failed to even rule out a Hollywood sojourn.
