Bielsa’s Liga MX love
Ahead of Uruguay’s clash with Mexico, head coach Marcelo Bielsa has called up a raft of players from Liga MX.

Marcelo Bielsa is no stranger to the international stage. The Argentine tactician has managed national teams like Argentina and Chile, and now he’s at the helm of Uruguay. Over the years, Bielsa has consistently tapped into talent from Mexico’s Liga MX - and this international window is no exception.
This time, Bielsa named six players currently competing in Mexico’s top flight, along with two - Federico Viñas and Maximiliano Araujo - who have a Liga MX past.
“Players with real pedigree”
Ahead of Los Charrúas’ friendly showdown against Mexico this weekend, Club América’s Uruguay defender Sebastián Cáceres revealed that Bielsa fully understands the caliber of players in Liga MX.
“[Bielsa and his Uruguay coaching staff] know there are quality players,” Cáceres said. “We recently talked about the level in the league, and they’re well aware of it.
“Just look at Monterrey, us, Tigres, Cruz Azul - players with real pedigree. Everyone recognizes that, and it’s a big talking point because more and more guys are coming in from Europe.”
Cáceres, who has 23 caps for Uruguay, added: “The league is excellent. For me, it’s the second-best in the continent. The Mexican national team hasn’t gotten the results internationally, maybe because in CONCACAF not every game is demanding.”
When is Mexico vs Uruguay?
Held at the Estadio Corona in Torreón, the highly anticipated matchup between Mexico and Uruguay is set for Saturday, November 15, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.
