As things stand: What the Apertura 2025 playoffs and play-in would look like
As the Liga MX Apertura regular season approaches its climax, this is the current state of play in the fight for postseason spots.
The regular season of the Apertura 2025 tournament is entering its final stretch, and the race to secure spots in the postseason is heating up. Recent results have shaken up the top of the standings, with several clubs locking in their places while others continue to battle for survival.
Cruz Azul has surged to the top of the table with 35 points after a commanding 3-0 victory over Puebla. The Mexico City side has shown both consistency and composure as the calendar winds down. Toluca remains close behind in second place with 34 points, following a scoreless draw on the road against Atlas.
Club América sits in third with 34 points after a solid 2-0 win over León. Tigres holds fourth place with 33 points, while Monterrey rounds out the top five with 31. The two northern powerhouses played to a 1-1 draw in the 141st edition of the Clásico Regio, leaving room for movement in the standings heading into the next matchday.
Playoff matchups - as things stand:
- Cruz Azul vs play-in qualifier
- Toluca vs play-in qualifier
- América vs Chivas
- Tigres vs Monterrey
Chivas currently occupies sixth place - the final automatic playoff berth - with 23 points. However, their position remains in flux pending a rescheduled match against Pachuca. Should they fail to hold onto sixth, El Rebaño would drop into the play-in zone alongside FC Juárez, who also sit on 23 points and are poised to face the Tuzos in a crucial showdown.
Meanwhile, Tijuana and Santos Laguna round out the provisional play-in bracket. In that format, the loser of the Xolos vs Guerreros clash will be eliminated outright, while the winner will face the loser of the Juárez vs Pachuca matchup to determine the final playoff spot.
