A former Real Madrid teammate may be key to James’ next move

James Rodríguez will not continue with Club León for the upcoming tournament, and he’s already exploring options to keep his career going. Mexico remains his top choice, as he’s determined to stay in Liga MX - and one of his biggest dreams is to live in Mexico City.
Keylor the key?
According to Fox Sports México, Keylor Navas could play a pivotal role in bringing the Colombian star to Pumas. The two were teammates at Real Madrid, and the expectation is that Navas might help sway negotiations to convince James to join Los Universitarios.
Other Liga MX giants in the frame
Meanwhile, América and Cruz Azul are also on the radar. However, neither front office has made any moves in the winter transfer market to secure the player. James’ desire to live in Mexico City is a major factor in his decision to choose Liga MX over a potential MLS move.
Another critical point: James would arrive at Pumas on a free transfer. His contract with La Fiera will not be renewed, making him a free agent able to negotiate with any club. That means Pumas wouldn’t spend a dime on his signing.
The club is eager to strengthen its roster for the next tournament, especially with José Juan Macías recovering from injury. There were rumors Macías might leave, but it’s now confirmed he has renewed his contract - opening the door for a possible partnership with James on the pitch.
