The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest edition of the tournament ever played, with 48 teams taking part for the first time. The United States, Mexico, and Canada will host, while teams from around the globe have been booking their spots over the past few months. The qualification process will continue until March 2026, when the full lineup is finalized.

Qualified teams for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

As of now, 30 of the 48 participants are known, including the three host nations. Twenty-seven additional countries have secured qualification through their respective confederations:

More teams expected before November window closes

Additional nations will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the November 2025 international window, which will see another nine European teams join England, France and Croatia in securing their spots.

The remaining qualification places to be filled are:

  • CONCACAF/North America, Central America, and the Caribbean – 3
  • UEFA – 13
  • Inter-confederation playoffs - 2

Playoffs to decide final spots

Two teams will qualify from the inter-confederation playoffs, scheduled in Mexico in March 2026. These playoffs will include one team each from AFC/Asia, CAF/Africa, CONMEBOL/South America, and OFC/Oceania, plus two from CONCACAF/North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

UEFA qualification will conclude with playoff finals on March 31, 2026, bringing the entire qualification process to a close.
