This is how the ATP rankings stand after the Shanghai Masters 1000: number 1, classification, and position of Alcaraz
The Spaniard has extended his lead over Sinner without playing, due to the Italian’s elimination in Shanghai.
Carlos Alcaraz is an even more commanding world number one now than he was a few weeks ago. This Monday, the Spaniard will still head the ATP rankings — and with a wider margin over second-place Jannik Sinner, despite not having competed in Shanghai.
Before the Chinese tournament, Alcaraz enjoyed a 590-point lead over the Italian, who had been defending 1,000 points from the 2024 Shanghai title, and lost 950 when he was ousted in the third round this year. The Spaniard, having elected to take a few days off to recover from a left ankle injury, had earned only 200 points at that Masters 1000 last year, which are now eliminated from his total due to his absence.
At present, Alcaraz leads with 11,340 points — 1,340 ahead of Sinner’s 10,000. That places him well on course to finish the season on top. Between Paris and the ATP Finals, Alcaraz has just 300 points to defend, while Jannik, who skipped the French capital last season, is likely to retain the 1,500 points he earned in Turin and aims to capture another 500 in two weeks in Vienna, a tournament he’s entered.
Both players will next appear starting Wednesday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for the luxurious Six Kings Slam exhibition (October 15–18), where the winner takes home over US $5.8 million (more than €5 million).
There’s a new face in the top 10: Lorenzo Musetti has jumped to eighth place. The Serbian, who made the round of 16 in Shanghai, has passed the injured Jack Draper, now ninth. The rest of the top 10 remain unchanged.
