Update:

The New Orleans Saints will be able to call upon Alvin Kamara this weekend as the 30-year-old continues to play through an ankle injury.

CBS Sports reports that Kamara has been suffering from an ankle injury for the past two weeks but has been cleared to play on Sunday. Last Sunday he even took on a season-high 84% of the Saints’ rushing duties after Kendre Miller tore his ACL.

It’s not yet clear if Kamara will be able to shoulder the offensive burden again against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend but he has not been given an injury designation by the team.

The running back was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday, Thursday and Friday practice for the Saints but has featured in all seven games so far this season.

Kamara has been a mainstay in the team since being drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He impressed from the start, claiming the NFL Rookie of the Year award that season and receiving Pro Bowl honors in each of his first five seasons in the league.

Last year Kamara signed a two-year, $24.5 million contract extension with New Orleans and he remains an important part of the team’s offensive set-up. Earlier this season there was a suggestion that the Saints would consider trading him away, but the nine-year stalwart insisted that he would rather retire than play anywhere else.

“I just got to keep my head down,” Kamara told ESPN’s Katherine Terrell. “And I don’t know, if I was a GM, I guess I would go to the player and be like, ‘Hey, we’re trading you. Just so you know.’ So, if Mickey [Loomis, Saints general manager] come downstairs and says that, then I’m going to go drink a piña colada somewhere.
