Tom Brady cloned his dog
The former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers player revealed that he cloned his dog in partnership with Colossal.

NFL legend and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady has made headlines off the field with a surprising announcement: his current dog, Junie, is a genetic clone of his beloved pit bull mix, Lua, who passed away in December 2023.
The cloning was carried out by Colossal Biosciences, a Dallas-based biotech company known for its cutting-edge work in de-extinction and animal cloning.

A second chance with Lua
Brady shared the news in a November 4 interview with People magazine, explaining that Colossal used a non-invasive blood draw from Lua before her death to create Junie. “I love my animals. They mean the world to me and my family,” Brady said. “A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their cloning technology to preserve Lua’s legacy.”
Junie now lives with Brady and his children, offering what he calls “a second chance” with the dog they adored. The cloning process was facilitated through Colossal’s recent acquisition of Viagen Pets and Equine, a company that specializes in cloning companion animals and has previously cloned pets for celebrities like Barbra Streisand and Paris Hilton.
Colossal’s bold mission: reviving extinct species
Colossal Biosciences isn’t just cloning pets — it’s aiming to rewrite the rules of extinction. In May 2025, the company announced it had successfully revived a species of dire wolf that had been extinct for over 13,000 years.
Founded in 2021, Colossal has positioned itself as a pioneer in synthetic biology, with ambitions to restore lost ecosystems and preserve endangered species.
Brady’s investment in Colossal reflects his growing interest in science and innovation, adding another chapter to his post-NFL career as a savvy entrepreneur and media personality.
