Update:

Joe Mixon hasn’t featured at all for the Houston Texans in 2025 and, ahead of the Week 11 game against the Buffalo Bills, it has been revealed that the running back is now expected to miss the remainder of the season.

What injury does Joe Mixon have?

The running back missed all of the Texans’ offseason workouts and training camp because of a foot injury. Mixon was placed on the non-football injury list at the end of camp, and NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport has reported he is now set to remain on the Physically Unable to Perform list for the rest of the current campaign.

The 29-year-old’s last game action came on January 18, when the Texans were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional round.

Mixon’s first season in Houston

After joining the Texans from the Bengals in March 2024, Mixon played 14 of 17 regular season games in his first season with the franchise. He missed three games because of an ankle issue. He rushed for 1,016 yards on 245 carries and 11 touchdowns, the fifth 1,000-yard rushing season of his career.

Will the Texans make the playoffs in 2025?

Without Mixon, the Texans, who are also missing quarterback C.J. Stroud, have work to do to make the postseason for a third consecutive year. DeMeco Ryans’ team currently sits third in the AFC South with a 5-5 record, which leaves them just outside the AFC wild card positions. However, they head into Thursday Night Football against the Bills on a two-game winning streak.

In both 2023 and 2024, Houston won the AFC South with a 10-7 record.
