Update:

On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals will make NFL history, again, when veteran quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco meet.

NFL fans are about to witness something that’s happened only twice before

What makes this NFL Week 11 game between the Steelers and Bengals so rare is that it’s just the fourth time in NFL history that two quarterbacks in their 40s have started against each other. Rodgers is 41 and Flacco is 40 years old.

You may be able to guess the players who made the other two times happen. The previous two instances were between Tom Brady and Drew Brees - both in the 2020 NFL season. The last time the two faced each other, Brady was 43 and Brees was 42.

Rodgers, thriving in his first year with Pittsburgh, has led the Steelers to a 5–4 start. Flacco, meanwhile, is adjusting to a whirlwind season that’s seen him traded from Cleveland to Cincinnati after losing his starting role. The matchup also adds fuel to an AFC North rivalry intensified by Steelers coach Mike Tomlin’s frustration over Flacco landing with a divisional opponent.

Beyond the history books, Sunday’s game could have major playoff implications, and plenty of nostalgia for fans who’ve watched these two battle for nearly two decades.
