Steelers 31 vs 33 Bengals summary, stats, scores and highlights | Week 7

Evan McPherson was a perfect 4/4 on the night and kicked the go ahead field goal with 7 seconds to go. Rodgers tried a Hail Mary that was batted down and Cincy sealed the huge win. Now they have a mini BYE and have the winless Jets and the Bears coming up in the next two weeks. The Steelers drop to 4-2 but still lead the AFC North. 

Flacco looked like a 25 year old who had been with this team for a handful of seasons, not a 40 year old who joined the Bengals last week. Flacco went for 342 yards and 3 TDs on 31/47 passing but this was the biggest throw of the night. He hit Higgins who made the catch and slid down at the 7 to not allow Rodgers to get a chance to get the ball back with any time on the clock. 

The Steelers defense finally made a stop, and forced a punt giving Aaron Rodgers a chance to take the lead for the first time since the 1st half. It took two plays for the Steelers to take the lead, and it was Freiermuth taking it 68 yards to the house to give PIT a 31-30 lead with under 2:30 to go. 

We went back and forth for the last two quarters as the Steelers tried keeping pace to the suddenly red hot Bengals. Rodgers led a quick strike drive to cut the lead back to 3 with this TD pass to Darnell Washington early in the 4th quarter. 

The Bengals and Flacco responded after the Steelers TD. Flacco, who has been with the team for 10 days, put the Bengals back up by 2 scores with this pass to Noah Fant. 

Down by 10 out of the break, Aaron Rodgers led a TD drive to start the third quarter, but he needed a 3rd and long conversion turned TD to cap the drive. Rodgers his Pat Freiermuth for his first of two TD catches to cut into the lead. 

DK Metcalf had this pass ripped out of his hands for Rodgers second INT, and Flacco would put his new team in FG range to take a 10 point lead heading into half. 

It wasn't just Chase for the Bengals. Joe Flacco showed that his chemistry is building with all of his receivers. He five different pass catchers on two or more completions and Higgins had 96 yards on 6 catches and this TD to put the Bengals up 14-10. 

Aaron Rodgers threw two picks against the Bengals defense that was without Trey Hendrickson, and this one from Jordan Battle led to a TD on the other end for the Bengals. 

The Steelers would extend their lead to 10 as the Bengals offense struggled to get rolling, but right before the halftime break Flacco got hot and hit Ja'Marr Chase for the Bengals first TD. Chase had a monster night catching 16 balls for 161 yards and this TD. 

The Cincinnati Bengals were on the brink of disaster two weeks ago, but they brought in 40 year old, recently benched in Cleveland, Joe Flacco and he led them to one of the most improbable wins of the year. 

It was the Steelers who came out swinging first. Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh marched right down the field on the opening drive of the night and the four time MVP hit Jonny Smith in the end zone to take an early 7-0 lead.

AFC Standings 

The Steelers coming into Week 7 as one of the leaders in the AFC. There is only one other team that has one loss in the conference, and that is the Indianapolis Colts. The Steelers went all in during the preseason and it looks like that gamble is paying off. In the NFC only the Bucs have survived until this point with one loss. Is this one of the best teams in the league? We will find out tonight, on the road in a division match up on primetime. 

The Icy Hot Bowl

It’s being labeled as the Icy Hot Bowl or the AARP Bowl. Joe Flacco and Aaron Rodgers are both over 40, they are both Super Bowl winning QBs, and they are both still slinging it. Flacco was brought in to keep the Bengals afloat while Rodgers was brought in to bring Super Bowl glory back to Pittsburgh. While these two are well into their 40s, this is not the oldest QB matchup we have ever seen. Drew Brees and Tom Brady meet in 2020 when they had a combined age of 83.

Joe Flacco has been with the Bengals for just over a week, and is basically in a win win situation. He just lost his job in Cleveland, but got a second chance at a starting job with the Bengals. If Cincy continue to lose, it really can’t be chalked up to him considering he’s barely been with the team, but if he turns things around then he will be a king in Cincinnati. He’s done it once already in his first stint in Cleveland when he came out of retirement in the middle of the season and led the Browns

It was a saga that took up basically the entire summer. Aaron Rodgers played a game of cat and mouse with retirement all summer but finally he signed with the Steelers and it seems as though things are going pretty smoothly in the Steele City through the first month and a half of the season. It’s not like the Steelers are lighting up the scoreboard with the four time MVP under center, but he is doing more than enough when it comes to giving his defense a lead to protect. He’s averaging 204 yards per game, and has 10 TDs with just 3 INTs while completing 68.8% of his passes. They aren’t the best numbers he’s ever had, but he knows he doesn’t need to be a league MVP to help lead this team to victory with the defense they have. 

Bengals last game 

It was Joe Flacco’s first game in a Bengals uniform, and for only being with the team for a a few days he didn’t play that poorly. He and the Bengals went into Lambeau to take on a Packers team that was coming off a BYE, and they kept it close in large part because of Myles Garrett and the defense. Green Bay went up 10-0 heading into the halftime break, but Flacco threw his first TD pass as a Bengal to cut the lead to three with 4:46 to go in the third quarter. Green Bay retook a two TD advantage with a couple of quick TDs in the first minutes of the fourth quarter but Flacco connected with Ja’Marr Chase for their first TD connection to bring it to a one possession game but a GB field goal with under 2:00 to go sank the Bengals to their fourth straight loss. 

Steelers last game 

Pittsburgh came off their BYE week locked and loaded for their game against the Browns. It wasn’t the prettiest of games but the defense set the tone against rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel. They sacked him six times, and pressured him countless other times while holding the Browns to just 9 points. The offense took a little while to start clicking, but Aaron Rodgers connected on 2 TD passes in the second half as the Steelers eased to a 23-9 win.

Hello everyone and welcome to Cincy where the Bengals have been in a free fall after seeing Joe Burrow get sidelined until December back in Week 2. Desperation set in and the Bengals brought in Joe Burrow after three straight disastrous losses with back up QB Jake Browning. On the other hand, the Steelers went all in on this season and so far everything is going pretty well for Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh. They are 4-1 coming into to tonight and soaring over the rest of the teams in the division. Can they keep it rolling tonight or with the Bengals come up with a much needed win?
