WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM PITTSBURGH!!!
NFC Standings
It may not have been pretty over the last few weeks for the Green Bay Packers, but they are the only one loss remaining team in the league. Having said that, they did tie a game to the Cowboys, and that could be a pesky problem when it comes to playoff seeding. For now they are the one seed in the NFC and the top team in the NFC North. The Lions are right behind them in the division at 5-2, and so too are the Eagles who are 6-2. The Bucs an the Bears are also in the mix as we approach the halfway point of the season.
AFC Standings
The Pittsburgh Steeles trail only the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC coming it tonight’s game. The Colts are the surprise story of the year but the Steelers have been the story of the year since bringing in Rodgers in the summer. The Bills and the Patriots are on two losses after the weekend and the AFC West has three teams that will be in the playoff picture once January comes rolling around.
Is Watson back?
It’s been a rough season to be a Green Bay receiver, but today the Cheeseheads have a chance to play with a semi healthy WR corp tonight. While Jaylen Reed is still on the sideline with a shoulder injury and Dontayvion Wicks is out with a calf, Love will have Christian Watson and Matthew Golden on the field in the same game. That will be an added addition to this passing attack that has shown some explosive play ability, but nothing like what we are likely to see tonight.
Rodgers since Packers
Since Rodgers left Green Bay, things haven’t exactly gone his way. He went to the New York Jets after parting ways with the Packers but things went south in the Big Apple real quick. He tore his achilles in the first series of the season and was sidelined for all of his first campaign with the Jets. The second year might have been more painful for Rodgers, who led his team to an underwhelming 5-12 season. The Jets cut Rodgers loose after the season, and there was talk of the four time QB retiring but Mike Tomlin convinced him to come back and try to lead this team to a deep playoff run.
Rodgers with Packers
Rodgers did just about everything a future Hall of Fame QB could do in his time in Green Bay. He was drafted out of the University of Cal after getting skipped over by almost the entire league back in 2005. He had to sit behind Brett Favre for three years, but then he got the starting job and three years later the Packers won the Super Bowl. He would go on to win four MVP awards, and went to the playoffs in 11 of 15 years in Green Bay. Love was drafted, but Rodgers stayed in town for three more years as Love waited for his turn.
Star watch: Steelers
The Steelers had a long game of cat and mouse with Rodgers over the summer, but the four time MVP finally put pen to paper as Pittsburgh tried to build a contender in the offseason in what they figure to be an “all-in” campaign. It hasn’t been the high flying, explosive air attack that we expected but it’s been working for the Steelers so far. Rodgers has 1,270 yards and 14 TDs with just 5 INTs and has the Steeles at 5-2 and at the top of the AFC North. Rodgers wasn’t exactly happy when the Packers moved on from him and he has been waiting for this game for quite some time.
Star watch: Packers
Jordan Love was the chosen one in Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers was still in his prime, but the Pack drafted a young QB with a top draft pick and things changed drastically. Love had to sit on the bench for a few years, but then Rodgers left for New York and Love was named the starter. He led them to the playoffs in both of his first two seasons as the Packers QB and this year the team is looking like they have a strong case in the NFC. His numbers aren’t out of this world, but he’s done enough to manage most games and have his team come into the week as the only one loss team in the conference. He’s got 1,438 yards and 10 TDs with only 2 INTs, and tonight they lights will be shining brightly on the new signal caller in the Green Bay.
Packers last game
The Packers came off of their BYE week and had a match up with the Arizona Cardinals who had been sliding since early in the season. The Cards, who were led by back up QB Jacoby Brissett and they led for most of the game. The Packers stayed in the game and would draw level but could never take the lead until there were under 2:00 to go in the game. Josh Jacobs ran it in from a yard out to take a 27-23 lead for a second of two TDs. The Cards had a chance to take the lead with a late drive but it ended with a turn over on downs from Arizona.
Steelers last game
The Steelers were locked in a shootout against the new look Cincinnati Bengals with Joe Flacco under center. In what was being called the Icy Hot Bowl between a couple of 40+ year old QBs, it was Flacco and the Bengals that got hot after a slow first quarter and scored on 6 of their last 7 drives. Rodgers threw for 249 yards and 4 TDs, and 2 INTs but Flacco went for 342 and 3 TDs and the brand new Cincy QB who had the final say after leading his team down field and setting up a game winning field goal from Chase McLaughlin.
