Update:

The NFL is set to fine more than 100 players and club employees for selling Super Bowl tickets above face value, breaking a little-known league rule.

On Friday Associated Press reported that an anonymous source from within the NFL had seen the result of the investigation. They claim that “about 100 players and two dozen club employees” were found to have made a profit on ticket sales for Super Bowl 59 earlier this year.

AP has also published a memo, distributed by the NFL’s head of compliance Sabrina Perel, which explained the situation. The letter explains that the rule is a "long-standing League Policy, which is specifically incorporated into the Collective Bargaining Agreement“.

It continues: "We are in the process of completing our investigation into this matter, but the investigation has revealed that club employees and players sold their tickets to a small number of ‘bundlers’ who were working with a ticket reseller to sell the Super Bowl tickets above face value.”

The league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with players allows players on all 32 NFL teams to purchase two tickets for the Super Bowl. However some players appear to have taken advantage of that privileged access and used it to profit personally.

Those guilty of reselling above face value will reportedly be fined 150% of the face value that they paid for the ticket. They will also be banned from buying tickets to either of the next two Super Bowls, unless they are playing in the game.
