Early Sunday morning, police were called to West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue in Midtown, New York City, after a verbal dispute resulted in shots being fired. Preliminary reports said that a 29-year-old man had been shot and was sent to the hospital in critical condition.

The New York Post was the first to report that the man was New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd.

What do we know about the Kris Boyd shooting?

Local news reported that officers arrived at the crime scene just after 2 am Sunday morning. They encountered a victim who had been shot in the abdomen. The police department did not identify him at the time by name.

According to police reports, what started as a verbal dispute escalated into a shooting with one victim. Kris Boyd has been taken to Bellevue Hospital where he is fighting for his life.

Police say that they are investigating the shooting but that no arrests have been made.
