Update:

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off yet another loss after the Cardinals beat them 27-17 in prime time on Monday night. Despite quarterback Dak Prescott having one of his best statistical seasons so far, he didn’t play his best game, and he was harshly criticized the next day by NBA star Draymond Green.

What did Draymond Green say about Dak Prescott?

During the Cowboys’ loss to Arizona, Prescott completed 24 of 49 passes for 250 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He was sacked five times and under heavy pressure all night. He and the offense failed to score a touchdown until the 4th quarter, even though they had early opportunities.

On one late drive, Prescott’s pass (or his decision-making) stalled the drive which ended in a turnover. Worst of all, with under two minutes left, he threw an interception that pretty much sealed the game. The next day, Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green shared his thoughts on Prescott, and he did not hold back.

“Dak is a bum,” Green said, speaking to Jordan Schultz on the “Why is Draymond Green Talking About Football Podcast”.

“They’ll never win with Dak,” he said, before clarifying that he doesn’t think Dak is bad exactly.

“I won four championships Jordan. So you’ve gotta understand that when I say ‘bum’, I’m not saying Dak Prescott isn’t a good NFL quarterback. Of course he’s a good NFL quarterback, I’m not saying that. But I’m saying when the money’s on the line, when it’s for all the marbles, who are you? He’s a bum…what has he done in those moments? Been a bum. When they had their best teams, best offensive line in the league. They had all that to get to the playoffs and he a bum.”

While the choice in words may not be exactly accurate, Green is not wrong that Prescott has underperformed in the postseason. He’s 2-5 in the playoffs and his postseason passer rating (reported at 91.8) is significantly lower than his regular-season rating (around 98.2).

He has thrown critical interceptions in playoff games, like the 2023 Wild Card loss to the Packers. On key downs and in the red zone in playoff games, Prescott has been inconsistent - stalled drives, missed opportunities, and failure to close out games. Although he has had some standout playoff performances (notably one game where he threw 4 touchdowns and rushed for another), the follow-up games often saw him regress and the team didn’t advance deep.

So even though Prescott is having one of his best career years, the loss to the Cardinals highlighted both his short-term mistakes (turnover late, red-zone failure, protection collapse) and broader roster/line deficiencies for Dallas.

Prescott’s regular-season numbers remain strong, but his playoff struggles continue to fuel debate over whether he can lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl. While Green’s comments were harsh, they reflect a growing sentiment amongst fans that Prescott must prove himself in big moments if he wants to silence his critics once and for all.
