Update:

Week 7 gave us a couple of big time performances from the top candidates for MVP. Patrick Mahomes had a fantastic three quarters in a blow out win over Las Vegas, Drake Maye was nearly perfect for the Patriots in Tennessee, and Matthew Stafford put on a show in Wembley Stadium as he broke an International Series record with five touchdown passes against the Jacksonville Jaguars defense.

This is how the MVP odds board is playing out after Week 7 according to our friends at MGM Grand.

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs (+150)

Not only has Patrick Mahomes been giving glimpses of his MVP form, not only have Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice returned, but now the Chiefs are playing like the same team that had a grip over the league for the last five or six years. He and the Chiefs pummeled a hopeless Las Vegas Raiders team on Sunday in KC. They were up 21-0 at half, and Mahomes sat the entire fourth quarter, but that didn’t stop him from passing for 286 yards, and 3 TDs on 26/35 passing. This team went from being strapped at the WR position to start the season to stacked heading into Week 8 and Mahomes has gone from having to carry the team on his back to sitting out the last quarter of the game. All is right in KC and their QB is at the top of the MVP odds board.

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills (+400)

Josh Allen and the Bills had a BYE this week and it couldn’t have come at a better time. They lost their last two games before their week off, and this time will give them a chance to reset and find the form they had in the first month of the season. They were scoring 30+ point per game, although Allen wasn’t having big games other than that near 400 yard game in the season opener against Baltimore. The trouble came once October started. Allen threw three picks in the two losses, and Buffalo was held to under 21 points in each of those games. They have a match up in Carolina this week, and you can bet that if the Bills are going to snap out of this bad spell, it’s going to be the reigning MVP that leads the way.

Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+450)

After peaking at the No. 2 spot on the MVP board last week, Baker and the Bucs got handed a dose of reality on Monday night. Mayfield and the offense were horrendous in the first half of the game against the Lions. They had less than 40 total yards in the first 28 minutes of the game. They wouldn’t find a little rhythm at the end of the first half and start of the second but the constant pressure that the Bucs QB was under made it nearly impossible to move the ball on the Lions banged up secondary. Mayfield ended the game with 228 yards, one TD and one INT, but Tampa Bay never put them in a position to make a late charge in the final few minutes of the game, which Baker has made his specialty this year. They need a bounce back and it’s going to be up to Baker to bring this team back to the win column.

Pass stats: CMP: 64.1%, YDS: 1,767, TD: 13, INT: 2, QBR: 99.8

Run stats: CAR: 22, YDS: 158, TD: 0

Drake Maye, New England Patriots (+1000)

If it wasn’t his second year, I think Drake Maye would be getting more MVP consideration. There aren’t many QBs, if any that are playing better than the Pats QB. First just look at his completion percentage. He’s completing three out of every four throws, and rarely makes a mistake that cost his team possession. He’s led the Pats to four straight wins. They are at the top of the AFC East, leading the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen and their defense is just getting revved up under Mike Vrable. On Sunday in Tennessee, Maye missed just two of his 23 passes, going for 222 yards and 2 TDs, ending the day with a near perfect passer rating. When you think about where this team was a year ago, and where they are now you have to give a big chunk of credit to their young gunslinger, and that’s why he’s got a serious claim to the MVP nearly half way through the season.

Pass stats: CMP: 75.2%, YDS: 1,744, TD: 12, INT: 2, QBR: 116.4

Run stats: CAR: 44, YDS: 200, TD: 2

Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams (+1100)

Matt Stafford had to make the long trip to London to play the NFL’s most dangerous defense without his top receiver, and what did he do? He threw for five TDs, setting an NFL International Series record, and leading his team to a 35-7 win. He and Davante Adams treated the Jags defense like the practice team, as they connected for three TDs. With out Puka Nacua, Stafford was sure to spread the love connecting with 10 different receivers on his 21 completions. After his five TD performance in the UK, he’s got 17 TD to lead the league and he’s top five in QBR and passing yards and has thrown just 2 INTs. The Rams are now 5-2 and have one of the best records I the NFC. If they continue to win and Stafford continues to play like he’s been playing, we might see him shoot up the MVP odds board.

Pass stats: CMP: 66.1%, YDS: 1,866, TD: 17, INT: 2, QBR: 109.3

Run stats: CAR: 17, YDS: -2, TD: 3
