Update:

On Monday night, the Green Bay Packers suffered a frustrating 10-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, but the defensive side of the ball mostly played strong. Philadelphia’s top back, Saquon Barkley, was limited to just 60 rushing yards on 22 carries (2.7 yards per attempt).

Meanwhile, the Packers as a team held the Eagles to under 90 rushing yards for the fifth consecutive game. Micah Parsons, one of the top defenders in the league, didn’t register a sack or quarterback hit, which obviously drew attention, but he recorded seven pressures and was still a disruptive force in both run and pass defense.

After the game, head coach Matt LaFleur praised the defense, saying: “I thought our defense was outstanding, and unfortunately too many mistakes offensively to overcome it.”

Cowherd criticizes Parsons and he fires back on X

On a recent episode of his show, Colin Cowherd took aim at Parsons’ performance and his reputation.

“If you noticed this last night with Micah Parsons, he didn’t have a sack. He didn’t have a quarterback hit … oh, it’s the second straight game,” Cowherd said. “Micah’s rep has always been: he is a splash player. A remarkable, athletic splash player. He’s not good against the run.

Cowherd pointed out that Parsons’ lack of visible big plays in recent games supposedly shows a gap in his game, particularly ability against the run and when the offense isn’t performing.

“Micah is a great athlete … but when they don’t (lead), and the offense dries up, he’s not very good at the run,” Cowherd said.

Parsons didn’t let the criticism go unchallenged. On X, he posted a scathing response:

“We just held Saquon Barkley to 60 rushing yards, and our only losses have been holding teams to 13 points! Man, sometimes can y’all? Please stfu and enjoy great defense! Why do you think teams come into the games that were going to run the ball on 3rd and long? What effect do you think that is? Please stop giving people’s mics or listening to trash!

Parsons has a point. The Packers’ defense as a unit performed at a high level, even if his individual stats were low in this particular game. Either way, he was not happy about his defense being called out in a game in which the offense performed so poorly.
