McDaniel breaks silence on Chris Grier’s exit, and fans don’t like what they heard
The Dolphins have a challenging Week 10 ahead as they face divisional rivals Buffalo Bills, but fans aren’t exactly feeling encouraged by coach’s words.

The Miami Dolphins are heading into Week 10 looking like a hot mess. They’re sitting at 2-7, saved from being last in the AFC East thanks only to the New York Jets being an even hotter mess. There’s been drama in the locker room all season, and after their 28-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the team parted ways with general manager Chris Grier in what they called a “mutual decision”, with Champ Kelly named as the interim GM.
As they prepare to face their rivals Buffalo Bills this Sunday, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel finally broke his silence on Grier’s exit.
Mike McDaniel avoids job security talk amidst Dolphins turmoil
Grier was McDaniel’s longtime collaborator since he joined the team four years ago. As the fans look to McDaniel for leadership now, his talk with the media on Wednesday left them feeling frustrated and unconvinced. McDaniel acknowledged the emotional impact of Grier’s departure, but avoided questions about his own job security, a silence that did little to reassure fans already frustrated with the team’s direction.
Two weeks before their loss to the Ravens, the Dolphins suffered a blowout loss to the Cleveland Browns, and the question about job security came up then, too. McDaniel’s response at that time was that he considers it “offensive” to be “spending that precious time” thinking about his self and his job.

Owner Stephen Ross reportedly plans to keep McDaniel for the remainder of the season, but his decision to control the next GM hire has sparked fresh criticism. For now, McDaniel insists his focus remains on preparing for Sunday’s matchup against the Buffalo Bills, though fans are growing skeptical that real change is coming.

The Dolphins will face the Bills for the second time this season after suffering a 31-21 loss to them back in September. That marked Miami’s seventh-straight loss to the Bills, with their most recent victory occurring in September 2022. On that note, McDaniel had this to say: “They’ve beaten us because they’ve scored more points than us and done the right football things longer than we have in those games that we lost.” Profound, indeed. It’s no wonder the fans feel discouraged.
