Lions’ TE Sam LaPorta explains what makes the team’s offense so good: “We really just want the best for the team”
The Detroit Lions are coming off a 15-2 season in 2024 and tight end Sam LaPorta talked about what makes their offense so powerful and unique.

The Detroit Lions had a spectacular season in 2024, finishing 15-2 and first in the NFC North for the second straight year and the No. 1 seed in the conference. Unfortunately, they lost in the Divisional Round of the playoffs to the Washington Commanders.
Now that they’re back at training camp, they’re looking to have another great regular season and an even better postseason. And star tight end Sam LaPorta explains what makes the team’s offense so unique.
LaPorta explains Lions’ unique offensive mindset
This year, the Lions have a new offensive coordinator in John Morton after Ben Johnson left to coach the Chicago Bears. But already, he’s earning the trust of his players. LaPorta called him a “brilliant mind”.
“I think Johnny Mo is doing a great job of distributing the ball, and there’s certainly a lot of mouths to feed in terms of skill position,” LaPorta said, laughing. He then compared Morton to a mom with eight kids.
He also said that what makes the team’s offense so unique is the team mentality.
“We really just want the best for the team,” LaPorta said. “‘Jame-o (Jameson Williams), you wanna catch 10 balls this weekend or do you wanna win?’ He’s gonna say, ‘yeah, I wanna win’.”

“I think it’s very uncharacteristic possibly of an NFL team,” said LaPorta. “There’s a lot of high profile athletes out there nowadays, and they want the limelight, they want the spotlight. And I think we handle that very well here.”
The Lions’ 2025 preseason starts early as they kick off the NFL Hall of Fame Game this Thursday against the Los Angeles Chargers in Canton, Ohio. Their first regular season game will be played on Sunday, September 7 against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
