Kansas City Chiefs’ Chris Jones speaks out after embarrassing Jaguars error
A strange decision from Jones in last week’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars left some fans furious.

Kansas City Chiefs pass rusher Chris Jones has found himself at the center of a storm this week in the aftermath of Monday’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jags quarterback Trevor Lawrence made the decisive play with 30 seconds left on the clock, stumbling under center but managing to shuffle across the goal line to give his team the lead. It was a gutsy play from Lawrence, but on second and third viewings the role of Jones was questioned, given that he failed to pursue Lawrence in any meaningful way.
Jones remained central, essentially static, as Lawrence tip-toed through the Chiefs defense to win the game. The 31-year-old has been with the Chiefs since the 2016 NFL Draft and he has a wealth of experience, however he admitted that he still has things to learn.
“It’s a teaching point for me, a little adversity,” Jones told reporters on Thursday. “I can’t think the play is over. It’s a learning lesson. I thought it was over. I thought we had him down, so I kind of stopped and was about to celebrate. Then I realized he wasn’t down.”

However Jones did defend himself on one front, insisting that he was not hiding from criticism. In the days after the game some noticed that Jones’ X and Instagram accounts had been deactivated, leading to the assumption that he had tried to avoid comments from fans.
While that would be a reasonable response for a playing forced to live in the public spotlight, Jones revealed that he had actually deactivated his account the week before.
“I posted a Drake quote, ‘I’ll see you in the summer of 2026,’” Jones explained. “I never run from constructive criticism. I’ve never been that guy. I’ve always addressed it head on, actually. It’s a lot you can take from criticism. It’s like fuel, like gas, for me personally.”
“I guess people wanted to address me head-on on social media, and they [saw] it wasn’t active. They figured that I deleted it for [that reason], but it was deleted a couple days before.”
