Update:

The Baltimore Ravens are off to a rough start to the season, dropping to 1-5 after their loss to the Los Angeles Rams last week. Losing quarterback Lamar Jackson to an injury has only made things worse. Jackson suffered a hamstring injury in Week 4 and has been out since then. But he’s finally expected to make his return in Week 8 after the Ravens have their bye week in Week 7.

John Harbaugh’s surprising message after Lamar Jackson’s injury woes

Heading into this season, the Ravens were viewed as serious playoff contenders. But the offense has collapsed in Jackson’s absence, scoring zero touchdowns in their latest game against the Rams. Backup quarterback Cooper Rush has struggled badly, leading to his benching on Sunday in favor of Tyler Huntley.

Head coach John Harbaugh, visibly frustrated but still hopeful, made a strikingly honest admission about how much he’s counting on Jackson’s return after the bye week. Speaking candidly in a press conference, Harbaugh said he’s “leaning really hard” on the quarterback’s comeback for his own “psychological and spiritual wellbeing”.

“If I was on the couch with a psychiatrist right now, if I was spilling it, I would have to say I’m leaning really hard into that, really hard,” Harbaugh said. “For any kind of psychological wellbeing, spiritual wellbeing, I’m leaning hard on that happening. So, I’m very hopeful that that happens.”

Despite slim playoff odds - only four teams since 1970 have reached the postseason after starting 1–5 - Harbaugh insists Baltimore still believes it can fight its way back.

“Our focus is going forward and what we can accomplish for the next 11 games to try to earn our way into the playoffs, which obviously, as [it was] pointed out last night, has not been done very often with the record we have,” said Harbaugh. “But, we still believe we can do it.”
