JJ Watt on the Dolphins’ struggles: “It’s pretty wild what’s being said publicly”
JJ Watt weighed in on the situation unfolding in Miami, noting particular concern about the tension behind the scenes.

During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show”, former three-time Defensive Player of the Year JJ Watt was asked about the Dolphins’ recent struggles both on and off the field. While McAfee joked that the team “stinks at football down there in Miami,” Watt took a more thoughtful approach, pointing to deeper issues behind the scenes.
JJ Watt gives his take on Dolphins turmoil and why it’s a bad sign
“This is far past ping-pong table territory,” Watt said, referring to the Baltimore Ravens recently taking that privilege away from the team. “When you’re doing it as publicly as they’re doing it and hiding it as little as they’re hiding it, it just makes you wonder what it’s like behind closed doors.”
Watt noted that both quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and head coach Mike McDaniel have been unusually candid in recent weeks, a sign, he suggested, that the tension inside the organization may be worse than it appears.
“You didn’t have to say any of that,” Watt said. “The coach doesn’t have to say what he says at the podium. You can give coach-speak and handle stuff behind closed doors. When it gets to the point where you’re discussing these things in public, generally that means it’s been pretty bad behind the scenes for a while.”
The conversation later turned to whether Miami is a difficult place to win, with Watt acknowledging that “you have to have the right mentality and infrastructure” to succeed in a city full of distractions.
Once seen as a legitimate playoff contender, the 1-6 Miami Dolphins now finds themselves facing growing questions about leadership, culture, and whether the current regime can turn things around.
