Update:

As the New York Jets bid to return to the NFL playoffs for the first time in a decade and a half, head coach Aaron Glenn says he’s intent on stamping out his team’s league-leading levels of ill-discipline.

The Jets have picked up the most penalties in each of the last two NFL seasons - earning 124 in 2023, before increasing that number to 137 last year.

As part of his drive to “knock these penalties out” of the Jets’ game, Glenn says a team of officials will be on hand to advise his players throughout New York’s preseason training camp, which kicked off on Tuesday.

“Cannot win games with an undisciplined team”

I want the officials here as much as possible and they know that,” Glenn told reporters. “It’s no secret that we were the most penalized team in the league last year.

“So that’s one of things that I want to nip in the bud early. Making sure that the discipline part of what we do, that we fix that now. You cannot win games in this league with an undisciplined team.

“So all the penalties that we had last year, we’re knocking those things out. We want to make sure that we’re good at that.”

Can Glenn guide Jets back to playoffs?

A former cornerback who spent seven seasons with the Jets as a player, Glenn was appointed as the franchise’s new head coach in January, after a 2024 season that saw New York finish on 5-12. It was the ninth straight campaign in which the team posted a losing record.

Glenn, who is embarking on his first stint as a head coach, replaces Jeff Ulbrich, who took over as interim boss after Robert Saleh was fired as the team’s full-time head coach last October.

The Jets have not made it to the NFL postseason since they reached the AFC Championship Game back in 2010.
