Update:

After a difficult start to the season, fans of the New York Jets finally had something to cheer about with the Week 8 win against the Bengals.

But although supporters had the team’s bye week to savor that victory, a big decision is still hanging over head coach Aaron Glenn. Jets quarterback Justin Fields had endured a torrid start to the 2025 season but finally showed his talent with a 275-yard game against the Bengals.

Now, Glenn must decide whether Fields should keep his place in the team for next weekend’s game against the Cleveland Browns. Glenn was pressed on the matter during Monday’s press conference but he refused to say who he was favoring at quarterback.

“You know I’m not gonna give you that answer,” Glenn told reporters. “You’ll find out soon who our starting quarterback will be. Justin did a hell of a job against Cincinnati, but you know I’m gonna keep that close to the vest.”

He continued by dismissing the claim that Fields’ confidence could be affected by his refusal to announce his pick.

“It helps the quarterback’s confidence when the player and coach talk, and they know who the guy is, not that I’m telling it to you guys,” Glenn explained. “That has nothing to do with the player’s confidence.”

In backup, the Jets have the experienced Tyrod Taylor as a potential alternative. The 36-year-old has now played for seven different teams in the NFL but he has not been a starter since the 2020 season with the Los Angeles Chargers. It would be a major blow to Fields to be replaced at this stage, but Glenn remains unwilling to confirm who will start for the Jets next week.
