The Detroit Lions made a statement to close out Week 7 of the NFL season, defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-9 at Ford Field behind a career performance from running back Jahmyr Gibbs. The second-year back led the way with 218 total yards from scrimmage, setting a new personal best.

Gibbs rushed for 136 yards and scored twice, giving Detroit a comfortable edge in a game where Tampa Bay’s offense never found its rhythm. The Buccaneers’ nine points marked their lowest output of the season, and their struggles worsened after star wide receiver Mike Evans exited in the first half with a shoulder injury.

Goff efficient but not flawless

Lions quarterback Jared Goff completed 20 of 29 passes for 241 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown connection with Amon-Ra St. Brown. Goff’s afternoon wasn’t perfect - he lost a fumble, threw an interception, and failed to convert on a fourth-down attempt - but his poise and control helped keep Detroit in command.

On the other side, Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield completed 28 of 50 passes for 228 yards with one touchdown and one interception, as the Bucs’ offense sputtered for most of the night.

What’s next for the Bucs and the Lions

The Buccaneers will look to rebound on the road next Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. The Lions, now comfortably atop the NFC North, head into their bye week before hosting the Minnesota Vikings on November 2.
