Update:

As the NFL trade deadline approaches, one NFL insider has revealed a surprising name of a player who could be traded: Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Kayvon Thibodeaux trade rumors heat up as Giants struggle at 2-6

New York Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux could reportedly be on the trade block ahead of the November 4 deadline, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, who called the former first-round pick a “name to watch.”

Schultz reports that some around the league are questioning whether Thibodeaux remains part of the Giants’ long-term plans, especially with the team sitting at 2–6 and leaning deeper into its rebuild.

The No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Thibodeaux flashed star potential with 11.5 sacks in 2023, but his production has dipped since. A wrist injury limited him to 12 games in 2024, and through eight games this season, he’s tallied 21 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

The Giants exercised his $14.7 million fifth-year option for 2025, but that price tag could become expendable, especially after drafting Abdul Carter at No. 3 overall this year. Teams in need of a young, athletic edge rusher could view Thibodeaux as a reclamation project, though Schultz noted that the pass-rusher trade market has been slow due to the number of players available.

Despite the speculation, there’s been no indication that the Giants plan to trade Thibodeaux. With both general manager Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll under pressure to finish strong and secure their jobs, the team is expected to keep all key players in place.

However, if Thibodeaux were to become available, the Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers are two potential suitors. The 49ers, who rank near the bottom of the league in sacks, are thin at edge rusher with Nick Bosa out for the season and Bryce Huff nursing a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, the Lions need more help opposite Aidan Hutchinson, as Marcus Davenport remains on injured reserve and Al-Quadin Muhammad has been starting in his place.
