Honey Badger Tyrann Mathieu drops bombshell after retiring earlier this week
The former New Orleans Saint and Kansas City Chief retired on Tuesday after over a decade in the NFL. He Won a Super Bowl and went to three Pro Bowls.

It’s been a rough week for New Orleans Saints fans. First of all, training camp started this week and they have the most measly quarterback situation in the league. On top of that two Saints legends decided to call it a career within a few days of each other. The first was Jimmy Graham. Then Tyrann Mathieu decided to hang it up.
A Bayou legend hangs it up
Tyrann Mathieu spent the last three years in the Bayou after splashing on to the national spotlight with the LSU Tigers. It was a fitting end to a legendary career. Now it seems that the Honey Badger, who has been retired for a matter of days, is open to a return to the NFL.

When talking with Kay Adams on the Up and Adams podcast he didn’t shout the door on what would be a very short lived retirement. “I mean, I’m retired,” Mathieu said. ”And obviously I had that conversation with somebody close to me. I don’t think they really believed me, right? Because a couple days ago we were talking about how [Michael Jordan] took a couple years off and Deion (Sanders) did it.”
More specifically, Adams asked if he would be open to returning to the Kansas City Chiefs if defensive coordinator Steve Spagnolo called on him for another postseason run. Mathieu won his one and only Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs back in 2020, but for now he is happy being retired.
One more Super Bowl run?
“I think that’s always like a possibility. I don’t ever want to kind of rule anything out, but I think as of right now, where my spirit is, mentally, where I’m at, yeah, I think I’m for sure retired,” said Mathieu.

The former Saint had one year remaining on his contract in New Orleans, but before that he spent time in Arizona as one of the most dangerous DBs in the game. After a year in Houston he went to KC, before returning to the place he called home since college.
While he hasn’t ruled out a return to the NFL, he has looked into his options in his post playing career. “I don’t know if it’s going to be TV, I don’t know if it’s going to be coaching,” said the Honey Badger.” I don’t know. But me being away from football, I don’t think that’s a thing, so even though I retired, I think my heart is still with the game and especially the players.”
