The Philadelphia Eagles continue to reshape their roster ahead of the NFL trade deadline, striking a deal to acquire edge rusher Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 2026 third-round draft pick.

Although they sit atop the NFC East with a 6-2 record - well ahead of the Dallas Cowboys (3-4-1), Washington Commanders (3-6) and New York Giants (2-7) - the Eagles were in need of defensive reinforcement.

Despite their strong start, the team has struggled to generate consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks, tallying just 16 sacks through eight games this season.

Who else have the Eagles signed?

The reigning Super Bowl LIX champions have been among the most aggressive teams on the trade market. In addition to Phillips, they’ve added cornerbacks Jaire Alexander and Michael Carter II, and even coaxed veteran defensive lineman Brandon Graham out of retirement to bolster their defense.

What do the Dolphins get out of the Phillips deal?

Philadelphia had two third-round picks in the 2026 draft - one originally acquired from the New York Jets and their own. The pick sent to Miami was the Eagles’ original selection. According to reports, the Dolphins will cover a portion of Phillips’ salary to help facilitate the trade.

Phillips, now in the final year of his rookie contract, has recorded three sacks in nine games this season. Over the course of his career, the former first-round pick has totaled 26 sacks and brings much-needed explosiveness to the Eagles’ pass rush.
