Update:

The Philadelphia Eagles made defense a top priority at the trade deadline, and one of their newest acquisitions isn’t holding back when it comes to how things ended with his former team.

New Eagles star Jaire Alexander blasts Ravens

Cornerback Jaire Alexander, who joined the Eagles after a brief and uneventful stint with the Baltimore Ravens, spoke candidly at Thursday’s press conference about his fresh start in Philadelphia. While expressing excitement to prove himself again, he also took a not-so-subtle swipe at the Ravens.

“I’m feeling great physically,” Alexander said. “But [in Baltimore] they wanted to see some younger guys, even though I was healthy and ready to go.”

That comment clearly reflected frustration with his time in Baltimore, where he appeared in just two games after being traded from Green Bay. The Ravens’ coaching staff prioritized developing depth behind Jackson’s high-powered offense, leaving Alexander, a two-time Pro Bowler, largely sidelined.

Now, Alexander says he’s focused on reminding the league that he still belongs among the NFL’s elite defensive backs.

“That’d be nice, man,” he said. “I’m more into proving to myself that I can be where I know I can be… I don’t have any doubts.”

Alexander’s career has taken some sharp turns in recent years. Once considered one of the league’s premier corners with the Packers, earning Pro Bowl nods in 2020 and 2022, injuries derailed his momentum. Since 2021, he’s only played more than eight games once, and his production has plummeted.

In Baltimore, he recorded zero interceptions, zero passes defended, and just five total tackles before the Eagles came calling. Still, the 28-year-old believes that working under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio can help him rediscover his All-Pro form.

This move could prove brilliant for the Eagles if Alexander does return to form. Despite boasting strong young talent like Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell, the Eagles’ secondary has been alarmingly quiet this year. In fact, no cornerback on the roster has an interception through Week 10.

Alexander is a versatile player, able to play outside, nickel, or even safety. His 12 career picks and that positional versatility could make him a key piece for the Eagles and their hopes of returning to the Super Bowl again this year.
