Drake “Drake Maye” Maye: Patriots QB goes viral after another big win
Quarterback Drake Maye delivered another impressive performance on Thursday night, and his teammate had to interrupt his press conference to troll him.

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye walked into his postgame press conference Thursday night grinning, loose, and fully aware he’d just delivered yet another statement performance. After all, it’s easy to smile when you’ve won eight straight.
Drake Maye shows MVP poise as Patriots keep rolling
Maye led the Patriots to a 27–14 victory over the New York Jets, going 25-of-34 for 281 yards and a touchdown, while orchestrating the offense with the kind of calm demeanor you usually see in veterans a decade older. MVP chants rained down from the crowd, but Maye didn’t let them rattle him. He looked steady, composed, and in total command, as usual.
But the mood in the media room turned from businesslike to comedic when rookie offensive tackle Will Campbell decided to crash the quarterback’s session. As Maye spoke about his mindset and maturity, Campbell suddenly crept in from the side of the podium.
Before the rookie could say a word, Maye burst into laughter and delivered a perfect big-brother-level scolding: “Man, get out of here rookie!”
Campbell grinned, fired back with the now-infamous meme nickname, “Drake ‘Drake Maye’ Maye!”, and walked right back out, leaving the room laughing.

Campbell’s joke referenced the draft-day meme poking fun at over-the-top athlete nicknames, a trend that spiraled when fans began ironically calling prospects things like “John ‘John Doe’ Doe.” As New England’s third-overall pick in last year’s draft, Maye became one of the meme’s poster boys.
Through 12 games, Maye is completing 71.9% of his passes while throwing for 2,836 yards and 20 touchdowns, ranking third in the NFL in both categories. The flashy numbers matter, but the consistency matters even more. Maye has been efficient, decisive, and increasingly fearless pushing the ball downfield, all while avoiding the reckless mistakes that plague many second-year quarterbacks.
More importantly for the franchise, he’s giving Patriots an optimism they haven’t seen for a while now since the post-Brady era.
