Update:

Dak Prescott moved past Hall of Famer Troy Aikman into second place on the Dallas Cowboys’ all-time passing leaders list during Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, the NFL revealed.

Prescott closes in on Romo record

Prescott surpassed Aikman’s total of 32,942 passing yards in the first three quarters of the matchup and now has Tony Romo’s all-time record in his sights.

In his 14 seasons in Dallas, Romo reached 34,183 passing yards, the most in team history. With Prescott trailing Romo by just over 1,000 yards, he is on track to break the Cowboys record before the end of the 2025 season, provided he stays healthy.

Bouncing back after a tough season

The 32-year-old missed nine games last season due to a hamstring injury and registered career lows for passer rating (86.0) and touchdown-to-interception ratio (1.38 to 1) when on the field.

However, Prescott has bounced back in impressive fashion in 2025. The 2016 Offensive Rookie of the Year ranks second among all quarterbacks in passing yards through the first five games, completing 71.3% of his passes for 10 touchdowns and just one interception.

Prescott continues march toward history

Against the Panthers, Prescott added another 261 passing yards and three touchdowns, steadily chipping away at Romo’s lead. The Cowboys quarterback is expected to surpass the franchise record in the coming weeks.
