Cowboys’ Overshown makes practice return but leaves early - Is his comeback delayed?
The Dallas Cowboys were given a serious scare when DeMarvion Overshown left the practice field on Thursday just as he looked set to return.

The Dallas Cowboys badly need linebacker DeMarvion Overshown back, and things are looking cautiously optimistic, but not without a bit of concern.
Overshown, returning from a torn ACL/MCL that kept him out last season, was designated to return and looked poised to make his 2025 debut soon. But new reports say he exited Thursday’s practice early after grabbing his hand, raising fresh new injury concerns.
Overshown returns to practice but exits early with thumb issue
The Cowboys were given a huge scare when Overshown first left the practice field, just as he was looking back on track to return, maybe as soon as this week.
According to Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News, Overshown left practice early with trainers. Hoyt called the injury likely minor, attributing it to a drill involving the hand or finger. Later, ESPN’s Todd Archer reported that Overshown is back on the field in practice, though now dealing with a thumb issue.

Multiple sources, including Patrik Walker and Jon Machota, noted Overshown was walking normally with no visible limp. That’s a strong indication his knee, the primary concern, remains stable. While the signs are favorable, there’s still risk. Any setback could push his return back, which is something the Cowboys cannot afford, given their 3–4–1 record and defensive struggles.
Dallas has been among the league’s worst defenses, giving up points, big plays, and yardage at alarming rates. Overshown’s presence would help bring stability to the linebacker room and provide support against offenses attacking their current vulnerabilities.
With the trade deadline coming up next week and the defense needing help, any delay in Overshown’s availability would both complicate short-term plans and increase pressure for Dallas to make a move.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer is expected to address the Overshown status on Friday, so fans and analysts are keeping a close watch. If the thumb issue truly is minor, Overshown could get a meaningful opportunity to salvage the Cowboys’ defensive unit just when they need it most.
