Commanders 7 vs 28 Chiefs summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 8

Mahomes put the game out of reach with this short pass to Rashee Rice who took it to the house from 18 yards out. Mahomes had 89 yards in the first half, but he ended with 299 yards and 3 TDs on 25/34 passing. 

The Chiefs move to 5-3 on the season while the Commanders continue their slide. They are going to have to get healthy as soon as possible if they don't want to fall out of the playoff race before it's too late. 

Mahomes would then hit Travis Kelce for the obligatory TD pass on Monday Night Football. Kecle tied Priest Holmes for most TDs in franchise history with that TD catch right at the goal line. 

The Chiefs regrouped at halftime and came out firing. Mahomes was locked in and the run game kicked in to gear. Mahomes connected with Hunt for his second TD of the night and that started a second half onslaught that would see KC score 21 unanswered points. 

The Commanders looked like the better team in the first half, having crossed the 50 on each one of their drives but they couldn't finish them off and would end up paying the price. 

Marcus Mariota did get the Commanders into the end zone with this dime to Terry McLaurin in the end zone but it would get ugly from there for Washington. 

The Chiefs got into the end zone once they started to hang on to the ball, and it was Kareem Hunt who punched in one of this two TDs right before the half. 

Mahomes came into Week 8 having thrown 2 INTs all season, but he had two in two quarters against the Commanders. This one was more Travis Kelce's fault after it hit off his hands and fell into the hands of a defender but those two would have plenty of time to make amends. 

Mahomes was far from perfect in the perfect and the Commanders seem to have him a little rattled, but that wouldn't last long. This pick from Marshon Lattimore was more a credit to the DB than a bad throw by Mahomes. 

The Kansas City Chiefs started slow but finished strong in their Monday Night game from Arrowhead. It was Patrick Mahomes leading the way for the Chiefs in their 28-7 win that takes them to 5-3. 

The Chiefs offense sputtered in the first half, but luckily the defense kept them in the game because the Commanders were moving the ball down field but an interception from Mike Danna and a couple of turnover on downs stunted those drives.

The Commanders crossed the 50 in every possession but had to wait until the last minute of the half when Mariota found McLaurin on the TD pass in which he somehow got both feet down. 

Mariota is 14/17 for 155 yards and leads the team with 22 rush yards. RB Jeremy McNicols is the leading receiver with 52 yards. 

The Chiefs were the first ones to get into the end zone, and it was Kareem Hunt getting pay dirt from a yard out. Mahomes has 89 yards on 8/15 passing and the run game has gone for 70 yards with Mahomes leading all rushers with 31 yards. 

Mahomes came into this game having thrown 2 picks in 7 games. He's got 2 in 2 quarters although you can chalk this one up on Kelce who had it in his hands. 

Mahomes returned the favor with a pick on his first drive of the game. He tried the back shoulder throw to Brown, but that got picked by Lattimore. 

This game got off to a sloppy start. It was the Commanders moving the ball down the field on the first drive, but the pass hit off Deebo's helmet and popped into the hands of Danna for the first of a few INTs in the first half.

The Commanders were marching down the field with ease, but a big mistake by one of their star WRs leads to a turnover and a huge early shift of momentum. Deebo missed it and Danna was there to make the snag.

Ertz on verge of history 

Zach Ertz has been one of the best tight ends of this generation. He’s not the flashiest, or the most athletic, but he’s a security blanket for any QB he has under center. While he may not be in the conversation with the Brock Bowers and the George Kittle’s of the world, he is on the verge of joining another conversation full of Hall of Fame TEs. With two catches, Ertz will become the sixth TD in history to reach 800 receptions in his career. The only other TE’s to reach that feat were Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten, Travis Kelce, Antonio Gates and Shannon Sharpe.

MVP odds after Week 7: Mahomes leading, Baker drops, Maye raising, Stafford explodes for five TDs

MVP race 

Taking a look at the MVP race after last week, we see Patrick Mahomes back at the top of the oddsmakers boards. He has come on in recent weeks and and now is playing like one of the best players, if not the best in the league. He has already won two MVPs in his young career, and has a great chance to win a third if the offense continues to roll like they have been lately. 

Commanders star watch 

With no Jayden Daniels the focus has to be shared around the Commanders offense. Jacory Croskey-Merritt has had a solid start to his rookie year, and to ease some of the pressure off of Marcus Mariotta’s back the run game is going to have to carry a large portion of the load tonight. When they do try and air it out, it’s going to be up to Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel to make plays down the field. Daniels is banged up but the rest of the offense is getting healthy, and everyone needs to step up if they are going to put up a fight in Arrowhead. 

Chiefs star watch 

Looks no further than Patrick Mahomes for our star watch portion of the preview. Mahomes and the Chiefs dynasty were almost written off at the start of the season after losing the first two games of the season. With a banged up WR corp, Mahomes was having to do practically everything including lead the team in rushing for the first two weeks. Since then the team has got healthy and Mahomes has had a big weight lifted off his shoulders. He’s got 14 TDs, and 2 INTs this season and since getting everyone back he’s got 12 TDs and just one INT. On Monday night, at Arrowhead you can bet Mahomes is ready to put on another show. 

Daniels out again 

Jayden Daniels was hurt in the game against Dallas last week, and it was announced during the mid week that he will not be available for tonight’s game against the Chiefs. The good new is the injury is not considered a long term injury but it will keep him out at least for this week and maybe in the weeks to come. That’s a troubling sight considering Daniels has already missed a couple games this year with injuries. If the Commanders are going to get back to the playoffs for a second straight year, they are going to need their face of the franchise back under center at 100%. 

Commanders last game 

The Commanders suffered a double dose of heart ache last week. Not only did they lose a division game to the Dallas Cowboys, but they also lost their QB to a hamstring injury. The Commanders got smoked by Dak Prescott and the Dallas offense that scored 44 points and the defense did a good job of limiting Jayden Daniels and the offense while on the field. It was a 12 point game at halftime but the Commanders started the second half with a fumble which Dallas turned into a TD, and then Marcus Mariota threw a pick six to put the Cowboys up 41-15 and they didn’t look back from there. 

Chiefs last game 

The Chiefs took on the Las Vegas Raiders in a matchup that had given Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs some troubles over the last few years, but KC made sure to make light work of the Raiders last Sunday, They jumped out to a 21-0 first half lead thanks to three TD passes from Mahomes and they would cruise to victory from there. The defense would keep a clean sheet and Isaiah Pacheco added another TD to good measure as their QB1 sat the final 15 minutes in an easy days work from Arrowhead.

Hello everyone and welcome to historic Arrowhead Stadium where the Kansas City Chiefs are back home for a third straight week and each week they are looking more and more like the team that terrorized the AFC for the last half decade. They have a beefed up WR corp and Patrick Mahomes is looking like an MVP candidate as we approach the mid way point of the season. The Washington Commanders have a few more doubts circling the nations capital. After a deep run in the playoffs last year, the Commanders have struggled to stay healthy and that has led to some inconsistent play since the start of the season. Tonight they look to turn things around after losing three of their last four.
