Commanders star Bobby Wagner makes historic WNBA investment
Washington Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner has made a historic purchase, buying an ownership stake in the WNBA’s Seattle Storm.


Washington Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner has become the first active NFL player to purchase an ownership stake in a WNBA franchise, joining the Seattle Storm’s ownership group. The move deepens Wagner’s longstanding ties to Seattle, where he spent the majority of his career with the Seahawks and won a Super Bowl in 2014.

From Seattle legend to Seattle owner
Wagner joins a prominent ownership team that includes WNBA legend Sue Bird, tech executive Lisa Brummel, and Olympic medalist Ginny Gilder. The Storm praised Wagner for his continued impact on the Seattle community and commitment to growing women’s sports.
“The Seattle Storm announced today that Super Bowl XLVIII Champion and All-Pro Linebacker, Bobby Wagner, will join the team’s ownership group,” the Storm’s statement read.
“Bobby is a hometown hero who has had immeasurable impact on the Seattle community,” said Brummel. “He shares our desire to grow the game and knows the value and importance of investing in women’s sports. As we continue to build on the incredible legacy of the Storm franchise, we are excited to add Bobby’s experience and expertise to the mix.”
NBA legend Magic Johnson also praised Wagner’s business move, calling it the start of him “building his empire.”
