Cowboys defeat Commanders in divisional battle
Under clear Arlington skies, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys delivered a dominant 44-22 win over the Washington Commanders to improve to 3-3-1.
Dallas offense continues to dominate
Prescott was sharp from start to finish, completing 21 of 30 passes for 264 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions, posting a 130.4 passer rating. He connected several times with CeeDee Lamb, who returned from injury to haul in five catches for 110 yards and a 74-yard score, while tight end Jake Ferguson added two red-zone touchdowns. Javonte Williams powered the ground game with 116 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries as Dallas rolled up 152 rushing yards.
The Cowboys' defense matched the offense’s intensity for a change, recording four sacks and forcing a key turnover - a DaRon Bland interception returned 68 yards for a touchdown. Kenneth Murray Jr. and Shemar James led the defensive front with nine tackles apiece and a combined two sacks.
For Washington, quarterback Jayden Daniels had an up-and-down day, throwing for 156 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 35 yards and another score, but also lost a fumble. After a sack by Cowboyw LB Shemar James, Daniels, who was just back from a knee injury last week, injured his hamstring in the 3rd quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the game.
Veteran backup Marcus Mariota took over, and added 63 passing yards but threw a costly interception. With top receivers still sidelined, the Commanders leaned on the run game, totaling 136 rushing yards, though they failed to score in the fourth quarter. Zach Ertz was the lone bright spot in the passing game, catching one touchdown.
Kicker Brandon Aubrey was perfect for Dallas, drilling all three field goals, including a 61-yarder, and all five extra points.
The Cowboys led the whole way through, jumping out to a 17-8 first-quarter advantage and never looking back, sealing their second win at home while handing Washington its fourth loss in five games. The Commanders fall below .500 at 3-4.

The Cowboys won the toss and elected to receive, so they will start us on offense! Here we go!

Williams vs Croskey-Merritt
Cowboys running back JavonteWilliams has emerged as a formidable force in the Cowboys' backfield. As of Week 7, he ranks 4th in the NFL with 476 rushing yards on 92 carries, averaging 5.2 yards per attempt. His five rushing touchdowns place him 3rd in the league. Additionally, Williams has contributed 83 receiving yards on 22 receptions, showcasing his versatility. Over his last three games, he has racked up 249 rushing yards and two touchdowns, along with 24 receiving yards and one touchdown, totaling 45.3 fantasy points during this span. His consistent performance has solidified his role as a primary offensive weapon for the Cowboys.
The Commanders have a force of their own in running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, their rookie seventh-round pick, who has quickly become the lead back. Through Week 6, he has rushed for 344 yards on 60 carries, averaging 5.7 yards per carry, and scored four touchdowns. In his last two games, he has averaged 17 touches and 109 total yards per game, ranking 3rd in explosive run rate and 7th in yards after contact per attempt among 50 qualifying backs. Despite a recent fumble, the coaching staff continues to show confidence in his abilities.
Dak Prescott has historically dominated the Commanders, improving to 11-2 in his career against them, though he missed both matchups last season due to a hamstring injury.
Washington’s QB Jayden Daniels, on the other hand, has yet to beat Dallas, throwing two touchdowns and two interceptions in a 34-26 loss last November. In that game, the teams combined for five touchdowns in the final five minutes, and Daniels only played the first half of the following season finale, watching Marcus Mariota lead a late-winning drive in a largely meaningless matchup.
With both teams facing injury challenges, the matchup may come down to which struggling defense can make the difference. Prescott’s recent hot streak and career success against Washington contrast with Daniels’ inexperience and previous struggles against the Cowboys.

Dak Prescott vs Jayden Daniels
Today's quarterback duel showcases two very different stories in 2025. Dallas’ Dak Prescott continues to lead with efficiency and poise, posting 13 touchdowns to just 3 interceptions through six games. His 71.6% completion rate shows his accuracy and command of the offense, while 1,617 passing yards reflect his steady production.
On the other side, Washington's Jayden Daniels is still finding his rhythm after missing two games with an injury, but has shown flashes of brilliance. In four starts, he’s thrown for 875 yards with a 7-to-1 TD-to-INT ratio and added 176 rushing yards, showing the dual-threat ability that made him a first-round pick. However, Daniels has faced pressure (sacked 11 times) as he continues adjusting to NFL defenses.
Their contrasting styles could define how each offense moves the ball in this divisional clash.

Cowboys Injury Report
The Cowboys are getting key reinforcements for this game, as CeeDee Lamb and KaVontae Turpin both return to the active lineup. Rookie Tyler Booker is also back after missing three games, while running back Malik Davis could make his 2025 debut with Miles Sanders out for the season.
Defensively, the Cowboys will be without All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs, who remains in concussion protocol after a mysterious at-home accident. Second-year CB Caelen Carson could see his first action of the year in Diggs’s absence. Safety Juanyeh Thomas is also sidelined due to a migraine, while DE Marshawn Kneeland (ankle) is out and DT Mazi Smith will play through his injury.

Commanders Injury Report
The Commanders made several roster adjustments ahead of the game this week, highlighted by the return of guard Sam Cosmi, who was activated from the PUP list after recovering from an ACL injury. The team also activated cornerback Jonathan Jones from injured reserve and placed wide receiver Noah Brown (groin) on IR.
Washington’s receiving corps took a major hit, with Terry McLaurin (quad) and Deebo Samuel (heel) both ruled out. To compensate, wide receiver Robbie Chosen and defensive tackle Sheldon Day were elevated to the active roster. On defense, Dorance Armstrong will face his former team despite not practicing all week, and Daron Payne is cleared to play after dealing with an illness.
Up front, Chris Paul replaces Brandon Coleman, who remains a healthy scratch, while Andrew Wylie steps in for Nick Allegretti. Rookie linebackers Ale Kaho and Kain Medrano are inactive once again. The lineup changes come as the Commanders look to overcome major injuries on both sides of the ball against Dallas.

CeeDee Lamb to make his return vs Commanders
Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is set to return from a high left ankle sprain that kept him out for three games. Lamb suffered the injury in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears but has since fully recovered and will play in today's game against the Commanders.
Lamb said he feels “back to being me” and can now move “without limitations.” His return is a major boost for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense. Prescott targeted Lamb 24 times in his first two full games this season, with the receiver hauling in 16 catches.
Dan Quinn's return to Dallas adds extra heat
When the Commanders take the field in Arlington today, one familiar face will be standing on their sideline - Dan Quinn, the Commanders’ head coach and the former architect of the Cowboys’ once-feared defense.
This won’t be Quinn’s first time back at AT&T Stadium since leaving Dallas, but it’s only been two years since he departed, and the impact of his absence is still being felt in Dallas.
DQ's impact in Big D
During his tenure as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator from 2021 to 2023, Quinn turned the unit into one of the league’s most aggressive, turnover-driven defenses. His work with Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, and DeMarcus Lawrence helped establish Dallas as a defensive powerhouse that regularly bailed out the offense. Under his leadership, the Cowboys finished top-five in takeaways and scoring defense multiple times.
Since his departure, however, things have gone downhill. They currently rank 27th in total defense, allowing nearly 390 yards per game. They've forced only five turnovers all year, a dramatic drop-off from the opportunistic, high-energy defense Quinn built during his time in Dallas. The pass rush has been sporadic at best, managing just nine total sacks, while opposing quarterbacks are being pressured on fewer than 20% of dropbacks, one of the lowest rates in the league.
Now, Quinn returns to the place where his reputation as one of the NFL’s best defensive minds was restored, but this time, his job is to stop Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense he once practiced against every week. His Commanders defense has been up-and-down this season, but Quinn’s familiarity with the Cowboys’ personnel and tendencies could give Washington a tactical edge.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys will be without one of the only bright spots on their defense after a freak accident landed Trevon Diggs in the concussion protocol.
Jayden Daniels will have to throw to Luke McCaffrey, Chris Moore, Jaylin Brooke, and Robbie Chosen as Washington’s stars recover from injuries.
Cowboys and Commanders: Where they stand in Week 7
Dallas Cowboys: 2-3-1
Heading into Week 7, the Cowboys are sitting below .500 after just two wins. Even without wide receiver CeeDee Lamb for several games, the passing attack has held up, with George Pickens and Jake Ferguson stepping up. Quarterback Dak Prescott is managing the offense well. Against Carolina in Week 6, he threw for 261 yards and 3 touchdowns, although Dallas lost 30-27. The ground game has been inconsistent. In Week 6, the Cowboys were badly dominated on the ground, surrendering 216 rushing yards to Carolina and mustering just 31 rushing yards themselves. The defense has been a major liability, particularly against the run. Carolina’s Rico Dowdle, a former Cowboy, ran for 183 yards and totaled 239 scrimmage yards against Dallas. The defense has allowed opponents to score 30+ in four of six games.
Washington Commanders: 3–3
Ahead of Week 7, the Commanders are sitting right at .500 with equal wins and losses. In Week 5, they made a statement when they shut down the Chargers after trailing early, mounting a 27-point rally. In Week 6, they suffered a narrow 25–24 loss to the Chicago Bears after a late turnover cost them. The game was decided by a walk-off field goal. The offense has play-making potential, but turnovers have become a killer. In Week 6, multiple self-inflicted errors directly led to Bears’ points. Washington is in a precarious spot, making big plays on offense, but they have been inconsistent and vulnerable to turnovers and injuries.
