Update:

CJ Stroud was removed from the Houston Texans’ Week 9 game against the Denver Broncos and placed in concussion protocol after sustaining what looked to be a serious head injury in the first quarter.

What happened to CJ Stroud against the Broncos?

After carrying the ball forward at speed, Stroud was hit by the Broncos’ Kris Abrams-Draine at the end of the scramble. The collision caused his head to whip back and strike the ground forcefully. The 24-year-old stayed down on the turf for an extended period as trainers attended to him, sparking concern from players on both teams.

Texans QB able to walk to locker room

Stroud was eventually able to walk off the field with team doctors, with Davis Mills stepping in as the Texans’ quarterback. The team quickly confirmed that Stroud had entered concussion protocol, highlighting the severity of the hit.

Stroud’s approximate recovery timeline

The NFL concussion protocol does not set a fixed recovery period, as each case varies. Recovery often takes around two weeks, but it could be longer depending on the injury’s severity.

In the best-case scenario, Stroud could miss the Texans’ Week 10 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and almost certainly their Week 11 matchup versus the Tennessee Titans. Houston may be able to consider using him again in Week 12 against the Buffalo Bills.
